Sense of place

Sense of Place is a series of photographs of significant local places that people have a special connection to, mainly in the American Midwest.

Each person’s story and the specific location guide me to the place where the picture should be taken. The project attempts to grasp the spirit of a particular city – in emotional landmarks - through the inhabitants' personal tales and stories, written on postcards shaping local memories and identities, yet finding universal patterns.

The project has taken place in the Midwest (Elk Horn and West Chicago) and Florida (Miami and Fort Myers). Currently, around 100 stories are collected.

The project has been sponsored by Museum of Danish America, Iowa Arts Council and West Chicago Museum.
